Ouran High School Host Club

Animation:
The animation in Ouran is vibrant and radiant. The animators really utilized the color palette to its full potential. As with most Shoujo series, the character designs are very sharp and detailed. The various backdrops used in Ouran are also very intricately drawn and appealing to the eye.
Story:
Ouran at first glance appears to be a Shoujo bishounen series. However, it runs more as a comedy series than anything else. While there are romantic elements in the story, they are not the focal point of this series. A majority of the episodes are standalone, and they primarily deal with Haruhi's various experiences with the other members in the Host Club. The comedy is slapstick in style, and a number of running gags appear in almost every episode, such as Renge and her ostentatious entrance from underground, Tamaki sulking in the corner after being scolded by Haruhi, or Honey-senpai and his unending appetite for pastries. The last episode is well done and the series ends with Tamaki's introduction of the Host Club, which is how the series started in the first episode. That was a nice touch, and it give the series a full-circle feel to it.
Sound:
The opening and ending songs are very catchy and upbeat, and the melodies are also used throughout the series as background music. The highlight of the soundtrack may very well be the piano piece that Tamaki plays in the series. It is one of those instrumental tracks that you can listen to over and over again as it has a very calming and gentle feel to it.
Overall:
Ouran is a series that most people can enjoy. It's light-hearted, creative, and most importantly, it's hilarious. Most people who finished watching this will probably agree that the 26 episodes went by way too quickly.
Rating:
9.1/10
